Fun and Interactive Games to Play with Your Parrot

Parrots thrive on social interaction, and one of the best ways to bond with your bird is through play. Interactive games not only provide mental and physical stimulation for your feathered friend, but they also bring joy, laughter, and stronger companionship. Here are some entertaining and enriching games to try with your bird:

Peekaboo or Hide & Seek

This game, affectionately called “Where’s the Mama” in our home, has different versions. Sometimes it involves hiding under a blanket on the couch or bed, prompting your bird to pull the covers to find you. Other times, you can step out of the room and call your bird until they peek around the corner to find you—usually followed by a game of chase!

Chase Me!

A big hit with our African greys, this game involves chasing them gently around the floor or bed while wiggling your fingers and saying, “I’m gonna get a birdie!” The anticipation of playful tickles makes it even more exciting.

Toss and Catch

Use lightweight objects like a crumpled piece of paper or a whiffle ball and gently toss it near your bird. Many parrots love grabbing the item and flinging it back at you—surprisingly with pretty good aim! If they miss, it turns into a fun fetch game (for you), adding some bonus exercise to your day.

Dancing Together

Turn on some upbeat music and get moving! Birds love to dance, especially when you’re dancing along with them. Hold your bird securely and gently sway to the rhythm—soon they’ll be bobbing, swaying, and having a blast with you.

Flying Fun

Flapping those wings is excellent cardio. At our house, we take the birds out once a day and jog around while holding them on our hands, encouraging wing flapping as they “fly” along. They love it—often shouting out joyful sounds like “whee!”

Get Creative and Have Fun

The possibilities for games are endless. Use your imagination and don’t be afraid to act silly. Let your inner child out and enjoy these moments. Your bird will thank you with laughter, trust, and plenty of happy chirps!
